I recall that Barris is stated to have died on the DA Keep if you saved the mages, however while recently reading up on the wiki site, I noticed that if you don’t assign Leliana to investigate Therinfal Redoubt (she arranges a scout distraction to work in concert with the Chargers), you don’t get the report which tells you amongst other details ‘We found… a large number of templar corpses.
